- Dr. Simon E. Fagerstrom was a professor and Head of the Department of History and Political Science at Michigan State Normal College. The bulk of the collection consists of articles and essays written by Dr. Fagerstrom.

Biographical note
Dr. Simon E. Fagerstrom was a professor and department head at Michigan State Normal College. He received his B.A. from Augustana College in 1988 and his M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1922. During the period 1919 to 1921, he served as the principal of high schools in both Illinois and South Dakota. In 1930 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Michign. Dr. Fagerstrom specialized in the constitutional period of United States history. He came to Michigan State Normal College in 1922 as an assistant professor of history and in 1931 was promoted to a full professorship. He served as the Head of the Department of History and Political Science at Eastern Michigan University from 1940 to his retirement in 1958. He passed away on November 3, 1981 in Lincoln, Nebraska, following an extended illness.

Dr. Simon E. Fagerstrom was a professor and department head at Michigan State Normal College. The Simon E. Fagerstrom papers have been divided into one series, Writing. There are also several files of additional materials, including clippings, course outlines, photographs, and a book belonging to Alexander Buel, which was a gift to Dr. Fagerstrom from Mrs. Buel. The bulk of the collection consists of essays and articles written by Dr. Fagerstrom.
