Miss Julia Anne King was a professor of History at Michigan State Normal College, and served as the College Preceptress from 1881 through 1919. Her papers include primarily hand-written manuscripts from her papers and lectures.

Biographical Note

Julia Anne King was born in Milan, Michigan on 28 September 1838 to Hiram and Charlotte King. Miss King attended the Adrian Public School, and graduated from Michigan State Normal College in 1858. She served as the Principal of St. Clair and Lansing High Schools, Ladies Principal of Kalamazoo College, and finally served in the Flint Public Schools. In 1881 Miss King became Preceptress at Michigan State Normal College, and also served as a professor of History. She passed away in Ypsilanti in May 1919.

The Julia Anne King papers include the personal and professional records belonging to Miss King, Preceptress and Professor of History at Michigan State Normal College from 1881 through 1919.

The Julia Anne King papers include one series of  Papers, Lectures, and Course Outlines. Also included are biographical materials, correspondence, information on the Julia Anne King Residence Hall, memorials, and photographs. There is also one folder of copies for research use; many originals are too fragile for photocopying.
