Elsie Andrews was the head librarian at Michigan State Normal College/Eastern Michigan University from 1932 to her retirement in 1952. Her papers include both personal and professional correspondence, papers and publications, photographs, and notes.

Biographical note

Elsie Andrews was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Charles S. and Ida Whitmore Andrews. She obtained her B.A. in Music from Michigan State Normal College in 1914, and her M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1924. Andrews also attended the Uniersity of Illinois Library School. She served as reference librarian at MSNC from 1914 through 1932, and as head librarian from 1932 to her retirement in 1952.

Miss Andrews was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Mortar Board, and was vice president of the Michigan Library Association from 1933-1934. She also belonged to the American Library Association and the Michigan/National Education Associations.

Scope and Contents

Elsie Andrews was a librarian at Michigan State Normal College/ Eastern Michigan University. She served as Reference Librarian from 1914 through 1932, and Head Librarian from 1932 through 1952. Her papers include such materials as newspaper clippings, correspondence, choir and music programs, Grand Haven public school awards for academic achievements, curriculum and class notes, photographs, Zeta Phi fraternity materials, papers and publications, as well as one bound scrapbook.
