Abstract
The Department Head Records are primarily comprised of administrative files, and meeting minutes generated by the academic department heads and the university presidents between 1949 and 1963. The collection is arranged chronologically in two series  Administrative Files and  Meeting Minutes. The collection does not document the work of department heads within the University after 1963.

Administrative History

Department heads at Eastern Michigan University are academic leaders who are responsible for promoting the growth and stature of the department, overseeing budgetary and personnel matters, developing faculty teaching schedules, work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary faculty and staff and a diverse student body; and provide appropriate service to the university.
