Scope and Contents

The Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) collection includes a wide variety of textual materials detailing the history and administration of the BFSA.

The original order of the collection was maintained, and materials were grouped into three series: Administrative history,  Publicity, and  Activism. Files within these series include a date range and have been arranged chronologically. The  Administrative history series includes membership lists and membership induction documents, correspondence, and governing records that document the administration of the association. The  Publicity series includes press releases and newspaper clippings, BFSA newsletters, Upward Bound newsletters (another organization representing the interests of underrepresented youth, which has its own collection in the University Archives), and event flyers and planning records. The  Activism series includes minority enrollment surveys completed in 1973 and recommendations and reports submitted to the Board of Trustees, as well as recommendations regarding curriculum relating to minority groups.

The bulk of the material is dated 1985-1992.
