Administrative History

Eastern Michigan University service staff and clerical employees submitted a petition requesting permission to organize an elected advisory council to the President of the University in June of 1963. The following November, the Non-Academic Employee Advisory Council was established. The purpose of the Council was "...to study and evaluate policies and procedures that affect all service staff employees; presenting an opportunity for them to speak on university affairs," and their activities led to the establishment of the Association of Clerical Employees.

The purpose of the Association of Clerical Employees is to develop a greater knowledge among the secretarial and clerical office professionals concerning the working functions of Eastern Michigan University. This group strives to accomplish a better communication among the secretarial and clerical office professionals with other university personnel through the exchange of  information and knowledge. The Association of Clerical Employees fosters a spirit of fellowship with other EMU secretarial and clerical office professionals, this promotes and achieves professional and  personal growth, as well as promoting professional skills and attitudes.
